Welcome to Regency Romance - Raves 'n Rants
You may, like me, be addicted to the genre of Regency Romance novels.
You may be also be an author - a proof-reader - a publisher - a review critic or even that extremely rare breed - a colonial born, mildly eccentric expatriate Briton, English-language editor - like myself.
My over-riding concern is that too many tales claiming association with the Regency period are entering the fantasy genre as authors push the parameters of the social mores of the Regency Period way beyond the historical record. My concern stems from the irritation generated by 'historical' and 'Regency' tags (sourced by either the publisher, the distributor or the author), that prompt me to buy the book, the content of which then annoys me by being inaccurate or down-right 'fantastical'.
CARPET TACKS
When I first came across Carpet Tacks in a recording of Polly Wolly Doodle, I was a child in Kenya and had no idea what carpet tacks were. Some time in the 1970s, when my parents were living in Maryland USA, I discovered treading on a carpet tack was a painful experience.
Thankfully, nailing carpets to the floor is passé in Finland and Estonia.
Most Popular Names for the Nobility 1700-1814
My recent analysis of Debrett's "Correct Peerage of England Scotland and Ireland
The Peerage of the United Kingdom Vol 1 (1814)" has produced some fascinating 1st name related data.
